It’s almost the wonderful time of the year. August first through fourth, the four absolute best days of the summer. Loud, crowds, buzz, the city’s festivities all come together as Lollapalooza takes its toll on the Chicago community for the 33rd year.
The thrill, the excitement when the official dates and lines up come out that get everyone ready to prepare their outfits, their daily plans, and so much more.
Chicago’s biggest and most popular music festival that includes artists of all genres. Highschool is the year, where for most people, they experience Lollapalooza for the first time. People from all over the Chicago land area attend the festival. How many people can Grant Park really hold? How many people can the red line or the metra really hold?
Every year, a set list comes out. Two headliners per day. Each year different headliners are chosen. A schedule for all four days is full of different artists, big and small.
Music brings out the community’s buzz, especially in Chicago. The lines up unique, and diverse also bring out the opinions.
Sophomore Emerson Lane shares her take on this year’s 2024 LollaPalooza lineup.
“I really do think that the line up is good this year, but I would say that Summer Smash is better.” Lane shares.
Summer Smash, a three day Rap festival that takes place at SeatGeek stadium in Bridgeport Chicago, is also very popular with high schoolers.
Lane adds, “I honestly wish that they took some inspiration from Summer Smash and included artists that are more popular instead of the underground artists.”
Although Lollapalooza is crowded with many teenagers, many middle aged adults attend the festival. Lollapalooza is very diverse when it comes to performers, so are all of these artists really just underground artists, or are they just not highschool friendly?
Junior Oonagh Moriarty shares what she thinks about the 2024 Lollapalooza lineup.
“I’d say it’s absolutely fire. I mean I’ve heard some complaints that there isn’t enough rap in this year’s line up, but I think that the amount of house music this year really makes up for it.” Moriarty shares.
House music, a classic. The best repetitive beats and rhythms that can get anyone to get up and dance and can create any song to implode. A great and easy way to get a festival to reach its highest potential.
House music is its own kind of jam. The history of house music goes way back to the late 1970s and 80s and was started by Black and gay Djs in Chicago. It has really made its mark on the history of music and what the future of music holds.
Moriarty also adds, “Although there are artists that not everyone knows there are still six or seven people I die hard want to see.”
This year there is quite some opinion on the 2024 Chicago Lollapalooza lineup.
