This year’s Art Honors Society showcase is the second ever and has been seen by many.
For just over a month, twenty four student artists have worked hard on their pieces, inspired by what brings them joy.
You can see it all at the NAHS (National Art Honor Society) Art show, from clothing to scrap books.
Throughout the past month, students worked on their pieces while Ms. Aguilar prepared for the showcase, creating displays for the amazing artwork.
Although there was recently a showcase for IB art students, Ms. Aguilar says, “The NAHS Art showcase is more personal.”
Senior Neena Campos’ artwork was a book filled with “knick knacks” that she had been collecting since the start of Junior year. Campos collected recites, tags, and other small items that were memorable and pasted them throughout “a book meant for doodling” One thing that can be taken away from Campos’s work is that objects hold memories”
Junior Aviva Laegeler worked on a piece called “Field Skirt” “I wore it to the exhibition!” Laegeler got inspiration from the Field Museum, and its architecture. “It is quite comfortable, made entirely of cotton with a black lining and brass closures.” Overall Laegeler’s piece was able to represent her ability to come over mistakes, and struggles she experienced while making her artwork.
Senior Anastasia Matic worked on a piece inspired by her mother’s love for gardening. “I took fake flowers I found at a craft store, and I made flowers out of paint.” Matic’s work is able to represent the joy that many are able to experience when the flowers start to bloom in the spring, and summer. “In the winter we are a little sad, and we start to get happier toward the summer, when the flowers start to blossom.”
