Everyone had been looking forward to a week off school and their beloved spring break which began on March 15th and ended March 25th. Students got a chance to relax and unwind, and some had a change of scenery. Students all around DePaul Prep have greatly enjoyed their time off and have shared their experiences with the Ram Page.
Many students around the school traveled somewhere warm as their choice of unwinding during the second semester. Rylee Cusick, a 9th grader here at DePaul College Prep, traveled to Indiatlantic, Florida. She “swam in the pool and ate spaghetti” while she was there. She also spent time visiting her grandparents who live in Florida. One place she would go again is a local pizza place called Bizarros.
Abby Radich, a 9th grader and runner for the track/cross country team took a trip to Boston to compete in the New Balance Indoor Track Nationals. She ran the 800 meter and 1 mile events while she was there. Radich said that “it was genuinely a crazy experience” and she would “100 percent do it again.” When she was not running and competing against some of the best runners in the nation, Abby had the opportunity to meet an Olympian, try local food and visit the Isabella Gardner Art Museum.
Sophomore Izzy Atwood was another one of the many who traveled to Florida this break. Specifically, she traveled to Saint Petersburg, which is an area in Tampa Bay. The highlights of Izzy’s trip included “laying by the pool and shopping along the boardwalk.” The ocean was also a very memorable aspect of her trip, since Izzy got to see dolphins during her time in Saint Petersburg.
Elle Brenner, a current DePaul Prep sophomore traveled somewhere with a different atmosphere this break. She went to the Smoky Mountains in Tennessee. Elle traveled with her twin brother, sister, and mom. Two of the activities Elle participated in while on this trip were mini golfing and hiking up a mountain that was 5500 feet in the air.” The most memorable parts of her vacation to the mountains were this hiking trip, going in the hot tub, and spending quality time with her family.
Students also traveled outside of the United States, going to locations abroad with warm climates. Lauren Tynan, who is also a current sophomore, flew to Puerto Rico with her family. Many students have similarly spent valuable time with their family over break, since sports and busy lifestyles can get in the way of quality time.
One of the high points of Lauren’s trip was “exploring Old San Juan” which is a historical downtown area in Puerto Rico. She was enlightened when she visited an old and well-known castle, called Castillo San Felipe del Morro, which was a fort for many generations of soldiers in early times.
Ultimately, the student community at DePaul Prep spent their break traveling but also getting a nice period of rest during the stress of the school year.
