Carter Chambers, DePaul Prep’s student body president, has been an active member of student government and BSU over the course of his four years as a student at DePaul Prep. His favorite aspect of DePaul Prep is the community. “I feel the school community, as well as everybody in our community, is very welcoming, making it very easy to make connections with others,” said Chambers.
For our latest issue of the Ram Page’s advice column, Carter Chambers is here to help answer your questions.
How do I become just like you one day, Mr. President?
I don’t even think it’s about that. I think you should strive to become the best version of yourself. In order to become me, you have to become you first.
How do I break up with my long term girlfriend since we’re going to different colleges next year?
I feel like you should just be honest, because if you don’t, it’s just going to weigh you down more and more. If you aren’t ready to go into a relationship for college, you need to be honest with yourself and in your relationship. It’s only going to hurt you if you continue to be in something you don’t want to be in. I think that everybody should take a break from relationships in college because college is about figuring out who you are.
Carter, what inspired you to run for president?
I like helping other people. It wasn’t really a goal of mine to become president or a representative at first, but I just really like helping people. I enjoy being a part of student government as well as a community where I can help my friends and others.
How do you manage your time when it comes to full IB, applying to college, and being a senior in high school?
You have to create a system that works for yourself. For example, on the days that you don’t have much homework, look at colleges and days where you have a lot of homework, focus on completing that on time. The workload as a senior can vary, so make sure to balance out the time you spend on homework and college applications.
How do I get a guy to ask me to prom, but not ask him myself?
Unless he can read your mind, I don’t think that’s possible. You have to show interest, talk to him and get to know him. If you guys are able to get along, then bring up prom and go from there.
As a full diploma candidate and class president, what’s the secret to success?
The secret to success is just to do what makes you happy. IB makes me very happy and being in student government makes me happy. Just pursue things that make you happy and follow people that make you happy as well.
